Scorpion Mouldings hardware upgrade

A busy central team needed to replace 13 PC's and 8 monitors during factory holiday closure

Who are Scorpion Mouldings hardware upgrade

Scorpion Mouldings are a technical plastic injection moulding company developing plastic moulds, injection mould tools and producing precision plastic components in engineering thermoplastics to ISO 9001 and TS 16949 quality standards.

The challenge

Qi had advised its supported customers that Windows 7 machines had to be replaced prior to support being withdrawn by Microsoft towards the end of this year (see this article).

Scorpion had identified that they had 13 Windows 7 PC’s and that 8 monitors also needed replacing.  This accounted for most of their central team hence having new hardware installed during the working day was going to be inconvenient and disruptive.

The solution
A busy central team needed to replace 13 PC's and 8 monitors during factory holiday closure

As with many manufacturers, Scorpion have fixed factory closures and it was agreed that based on the longstanding relationship Qi and Scorpion enjoy – the hardware team would visit during closure and set up the new hardware ready for their return to work, thus preventing disruption or down time.

Prior to coming on site – each PC was configured and the necessary pathways to Sage  Accounts, Sage Manufacturing and their Qi bespoke programme put in place.

Qi liaised with Leigh at Scorpion on industry specific software (CAD, mainly) deployed at Scorption, to mitigate any additional costs that would have been incurred if Qi had undertaken it on Scorpion’s behalf. Where Qi can partner the customer to deploy a project and protect the budget – we do!

The outcome

Scorpion’s IT infrastructure is now up to date and now benefits from the security updates Windows 10 benefits from.

Upon returning from the factory closure – staff found their workspace just as they left it only with the benefit of new PC’s and monitors.  Work commenced first thing on Monday and as you would expect from a Qi project – everything worked first time!

We just left work on 24th May and left it in Qi’s hands and even better when we all returned from our week shutdown everything was working well and all in place. Thanks Qi for making it so stress free for us all!
